In some patients who are in need of their TMJ's being reconstructed surgically the use of the Christensen Partial TMJ implants or the Christensen Total TMJ Implants, manufactured by TMJ Implants, Inc. of Golden, Colorado, are considered the Gold Standard. This film will describe how the Partial TMJ Implant, known technically as the Fossa-Eminence Prosthesis is used as a disc replacement in cases where the meniscus (disc) in misplaced or perforated and how it not only protects the skull base, but also the natural condyle which functions against the highly polished implant. When the prosthetic Co-Cr metal Condylar Prosthesis is mated with the Co-Cr metal Fossa-Eminence Prosthesis there is imperceptible wear of the two metal surfaces even after some years of function. This fact also means there is no perceptible metalosis in the tissues around the implants even after many years of their being implanted. As stated before. The metal/metal bearing surfaces are excellent for use in the temporomandibular implants manufactured and provided by TMJ Implants, Inc. of Golden, Colorado.

In some patients who are in need of their TMJs being reconstructed surgically the problem is much larger than just the actual TMJ. In order to replace a mandible, or other regional anatomy, it is necessary to replace a missing portion. In the instant being shown it was necessary to actually attach the mandibular condyle to the missing ramus to the missing body of the right mandible to the present symphysis, or chin area, of the mandible.
