Overview

Disc repositioning, reconstruction, or replacement procedures, results from multiple pathologies affecting the articulating disc of the TMJ.

Indications

Abnormal displaced disc; abnormal articular cartilage and clicking with jaw movement or a locked jaw.

Precautions

Since there are currently no safe alloplastic (non-biological) options to reconstruct the TMJ disc, TMDs that include the disc, usually result in either partial or total TMJ replacement procedures.
