Overview

An arthroscope is used to not only examine the pathologic joint, but also to perform surgical procedures such as removing scar tissue, smoothing over the bone, and even repositioning the disc. Recovery time from this procedure is several days to even weeks. It is important to maintain a soft food diet during recovery time. After several days of post-operative rest, starting a physical therapy regime is recommended.
Indications
Arthroscopy has a role as a diagnostic tool and may replace or supplement radiographic images. Arthrocentesis is recommended as first-line treatment, but if it is unsuccessful then it is appropriate to use arthroscopy.
Precautions
