Dr. Robert W. Christensen

Dr. Robert W. Christensen received his DDS degree from New York University in 1948, graduating Cum Laude. His graduate training was in oral surgery at Los Angeles County General Hospital. He served in the US Navy as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon during the Korean War. In 1953, Dr. Christensen began his private practice as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. He practiced in Pasadena, Lawndale, and northern California until his retirement from active practice in 1988. In that period, he also served as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Head and Neck Surgery at the University of California, School of Medicine at Irvine.

Dr. Christensen appears in Surgery 64

Dr. Christensen first described surgery of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) in a special television program entitled Surgery 64, which aired on February 26, 1964, and was featured in TV Guide. However, Dr. Christensen had been performing surgery of the TMJ some 10 years earlier. Dr. Christensen has published numerous articles and books, and has been the recipient of multiple international honors for his work in the field of medical implants.
